I-210 Gold Line Bridge Construction Update

Falsework installation to require a series of nighttime closures this month:

In the coming weeks, installation of the temporary support structure (called falsework) will begin. This is a critical point in construction of the bridge, when crews are preparing to begin work on the superstructure. The falsework creates a secure work space over the lanes of the freeway for that effort.

Because the 584-linear-foot bridge is crossing the freeway at a skewed angle, the falsework structure will be significant and take a number of weeks to complete. As a result, Skanska has planned a series of partial and full closures of the eastbound lanes of the freeway. Many will occur on consecutive nights, and all will take place starting at 10:00 p.m. for partial closures and midnight for full closures. Lanes will reopen starting at 5:00 a.m.

Below is a rendering of what the falsework will look like:

During full closures of the eastbound freeway, traffic will be detoured onto Foothill Boulevard and then back onto the freeway at Santa Anita. Past detour delays have ranged from five to twenty minutes, so we recommend you avoid the area during these closures, if possible.

The image below shows the detour route:

Pasadena to Azusa Alignment Project Update

Kiewit Parsons Joint Venture, the project's design-builder, has initiated design and pre-construction activities. Starting in January, and continuing through the next few months, crews will be out conducting surveying, geotechnical work and utility locating activities all along the 11.5-mile corridor.

The information provided from these activities will be used by the design team to detail the project's design submittals. Major construction is anticipated to begin in late 2012 and will generally be completed from east to west (starting in Azusa and moving west toward Arcadia and Pasadena).  Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
